Understand Eligibility Requirements

Under ADA and Section 504, a student with documentation of a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, or who has a record of such an impairment or is regarded as having an impairment, may qualify for services. Each institution of higher education determines if an individual with a disability qualifies for services.

Physical or mental impairments may include but are not limited to:

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome

Attention deficit disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Autism

Cancer

Cerebral palsy

Deaf/blindness

Hearing impairments/deafness

Learning disability

Mobility and orthopedic impairments

Multiple sclerosis (ms)

Muscular dystrophy

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Psychological disorders

Speech/language impairments

Traumatic brain injury

Visual impairments/blindness
